Ford Ranger: Review
The name Ford Ranger comprises of three lines of pick-up trucks from the Motor Company Ford. The first line was named Edsel Ranger, which turned into Ford F-Series from 1965 to 1981. Then from 1982 to 1983, a compact pick-up truck model was released. Ford Rangers seen today are from the line of cars started in 1998.
In local Myanmar car market, the Ford Ranger brand is starting to gain visibility. Currently, there are Ford Showrooms all around the city and brand-new models are being sold directly. The interior design is practical and refreshing. The Ranger is gaining popularity in Myanmar, as the 4WDs are suitable for the rough, elevated terrains seen in the mountainous areas of upper Burma.
Ford Ranger: Performance and Engine Specifications
The Ford Ranger T6 from 2011 onwards comes with three types of engines, such as the 2500 cc petrol engine, 2200 cc diesel engine, and 3200 cc diesel engine. The model also comes with either the automatic 6-gear transmission or the manual transmission of 5 or 6-gears.
The newer Ford Rangers also have many kinds of engines: the 2500 cc Diesel engine of 5-gear manual transmission which can output 163 hp and the 2200 cc Diesel engines either with manual or automatic 6-gear transmission, or a 2.2 liter Inline 4-Cylinder Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) 16 Valve engine which produces 150 hp and 375 of torque and an Inline 5-Cylinder DOHC 20 Valve engine which sports 200 hp and 470 of torque. The latter is available only on the 4x4 Ford Ranger Wildtrak.
The Ranger also has a wide range of trim levels: a 4x2 MT base trim, XL, and XLT. Its cab variants also have a “low ride” trim. The Ford Ranger Wildtrak is a special edition which comes in an all-wheel drivetrain and a 3.2L or a 2.2L diesel engine. Previous trim levels include the Sport, FX4, the monochromatic Edge, Tremor and the sporty STX.
Ford Ranger: Design
The Rangers come in Single Cab, Double Cab, and Extra Cab verions, with the Double-cabs being on the slightly more expensive list than the others. The Double-cab also sport four doors, whereas the others sport two. There is a choice between the rear-wheel drive and 4-Wheel-Drive vehicles, although most Ford Rangers seen at the local showrooms are 4WD's with diesel engines. As pick-up trucks, the Rangers are supported by strong, sturdy tires and a large space at the back for loading utilities.
The body-on-frame construction of the Ford Ranger, paired with a double wishbone front suspension and leaf springs for its rear, makes it a no-frills, go-to pick-up truck. This configuration also offers more stability, even on the harshest of terrains.
Inside the Ranger, the cabin may seem a bit cramped but with enough legroom. Standard amenities for most variants include manual air conditioning, a center console with cupholders, and an in-dash AM/FM radio with 2 to 6 speakers, depending on its variant.
Ford Ranger: Standout Features
After undergoing numerous improvements, the Ford Ranger has upgraded many of its specifications and features. The current Ranger is built to last and is good for transporting heavy cargo. The unique characteristics of the Ranger include the number of its variants (at least 13), which cater to a wide range of customers for many versatile roles. Although a bit on the pricey end, the Ranger’s base model is one of the more popular pick-ups in Myanmar today.
